HOLLINGWORTH LAKE SAILING CLUB GP14 CLASS OPEN MEETING

16th MAY 2010

A blustery north west wind set the scene for 13 competitors in the
Hollingworth Lake SC Open Meeting.  The event counted towards the GP 14 Class
Grand Prix Series.

The first start was delayed while the Race Officer waited for the wind
direction to settle.  Gary Dewhurst and Thomas Bennett made clear their
intention and held the lead for some time while Bill Kenyon and Ben
Ditchburn worked their way through.  Dewhurst and Kenyon changed places with
the windward leg shifts and Kenyon should have won, but for an error on the
approach to the finishing line.  Steven Crook and Matt Calvert, in a borrowed
boat also worked their way through to finish third for the Club's best
place.

After lunch, more sailors were getting used to the shift patterns, though
again the Race Officer had concerns about the lay of the start line and the
first mark.  Martin Brennan and Alistair Knott now met the challenge to be
early leaders.  Kenyon was soon on their tail to take the lead to the finish,
while Dewhurst held off other challenges for third place.  Meanwhile, a
familiar name from the past, Roger Mee (crewed by Steve Caladine) came up
well for fourth place.

The final race found the three leading contenders set for the challenge to
win overall.  Kenyon, Dewhurst, Mee and Gary Deighan with Becky Paul all got
clear away at the first mark, while Brennan got stuck with a group parked at
the mark.  Kenyon went on to win, with Dewhurst second while Brennan steadily
made his way through to finish third with Deighan fourth.

Bill Kenyon and Ben Ditchburn deservedly won the event and thanked Race
Officer, Dave Smith for coping with difficult winds and the Club for good
food.
