The members of the club come from a wide range of
backgrounds. Some members have just joined after walking along the Lake
Bank and thinking that the sailing looks interesting. At the other end, we have
members, who received their bus passes a few years ago, and they are still
sailing 40-50years on from first joining the club.
The Club has a marvellous family atmosphere and on occasions there are 3
generations of a family out on the water at one time. The good thing about
sailing is that you never know which generation is going to win. The club gives
young members a great fun environment in which to grow up and develop social
skills that will stand them in good stead for the rest of their lives.
Some have even gone on to work in the marine industry.
As many of the boats are sailed by 2 people, there is no need to actually own a
boat to go sailing. Crewing can be just as enjoyable as helming and is an ideal
way for people to enjoy the sport, without going to the expense and trouble of
actually owning a boat.
With the Hollingworth Lake Sailing Club having such a good social atmosphere, it becomes a major focus of
some people's lives. Quite a few members have met their long time partners here.
There are a number of different membership classes and typical costs are
Junior & Youth (over 12 and under 18) £27 per annum

Away from Hollingworth Lake, groups of members have gone on sailing, walking, cycling and skiing trips and holidays together in many parts of the world. Some members have even sailed around the world; a bit slower than Ellen MacArthur, but they had more fun. |
