Sailing Water & Road News

Hollingworth Lake is set in the Pennine countryside at Littleborough, near Rochdale, Lancashire.

The club is situated on the 117 acre reservoir within the Hollingworth Lake Country Park, just north of Rochdale.  The lake is 18 miles from Manchester and 31 miles from Leeds and the club is easily accessible, being just 5 minutes from the M62 J21.

The club is just on the edge of the town of Littleborough, yet the sailing is carried out against the beautiful rural backdrop of the Pennines.  Whilst no inland lake can claim perfect winds, Hollingworth Lake gives some of the best open-water sailing in the area.  “The Hollingworth Hoolie” when the wind blows from the east off the Pennines in winter has to be seen to be believed!

Directions to the Club.

HLSC is situated alongside the B6225 Milnrow to Littleborough road.  From the NEW J21 on the M62 (Milnrow) turn left at the 2nd (from E) or 3rd (from W) exit roundabout towards Milnrow.  Follow the brown tourist signs to Hollingworth Lake for approximately two miles.  This entails a right turn (1) at the first set of traffic lights, a left turn (2) at the mini roundabout by The Bobbin pub and then another left turn (3) at the top of the hill before the Gallows pub, following the B6225. At the next mini roundabout turn right (4) and follow the road as it swings left round a corner.

The Sailing Club is on your right hand side in 150m, with access from the car park (‘Pay & Display’).  Boats can also be launched direct into the lake down the slip from the car park.

No cars may park in dinghy park.
