Patience & Bithell earn 2012 call-up!

HLSC has great pleasure, pride and excitement to be able to announce that one of our members, Stuart Bithell has been selected to represent Great Britain in the 470 class at this summer's Olympic Games.

Stu has been a fantastic ambassador for Hollingworth Lake Sailing Club, always entering events under the HLSC burgee and making reference to the club in interviews.

We all send him our best wishes and hope he brings a gold medal back to show off!

Hollingworth Lake Sailing Club (HLSC) near Rochdale offers competitive class racing for sailors of all levels coupled with an active training programme.

HLSC is situated on the 117 acre reservoir within the Hollingworth Lake Country Park, just north of Rochdale. The lake is 18 miles from Manchester and 31 miles from Leeds...the club is easily accessible — just 10 minutes from the M62, junction 21.

The club is just on the edge of Littleborough, yet the sailing is carried out against the beautiful rural backdrop of the Pennines. Whilst no inland lake can claim perfect winds, Hollingworth Lake gives some of the best open-water sailing in the area. “The Hollingworth Hoolie” (when the wind blows from the east off the Pennines in winter) has to be seen to be believed!

‘Like’ us on Facebook to keep up to date with events taking place at the club and updates on our members...including national and world champions.

The weather forecast was not kind to this event. The known low water level of the Lake may have put off some sailors the chance to sail with some of the best in the MR Class. The event has been won so often before by Richard Whitworth that it may seem like a foregone conclusion. Matt Biggs and Ben Hollis would need all the Stealth of their new boat to unseat Tricky Dicky. Perhaps with 15 entries it was not so surprising that there were no general recalls or need for the Black Flag!
